Action Sports Photography and How to Manage Images

If you are photographing action sports you can use PhotoMatch to auto assign images to divisions or you can bulk assign images when you upload via CCS Uploader or they can be assigned in CORE.

Why You Would ID Images as Action

The purpose of identifying images as "action" is so everyone in the division the images are assigned to can view those images in their gallery which may also contain their individual portraits and team photos.  Technically "Action" images are not IDd to individual names, they are IDd to the division the individual is assigned to.

By identifying images as "Action" you will also need to have products and/or packages setup specific for action IDd images.  This allows you to have different products, packages and prices for images that are "Action".

Using PhotoMatch to ID Action Photos

Open PhotoMatch and select the settings button and check "Show match as Action Photos option on login screen".  If this is not checked, when you log into the event you won't have the option to ID as action.

When the photographer logs into the event they will need to check "Flag Folder as Action Photos".  If they don't see this option, close this window and go to settings to enable the option.

NOTE:  If this option is checked, ALL IMAGES taken will be IDd as action photos to the division of the name you open and NOT to the individuals name.  If you are taking individual portraits and/or group photos, DO NOT CHECK, flag folder as action.  You also cannot have action and non action images in the same folder.  Once you log into a folder with the "Flag Folder as Action Photos", all images in that folder will be considered "action".

Once logged in, you'll see the "Action" icon indicating your are logged in as "Action".

To ID images to a specific division, you just need to select a name that is in the division you want to ID as action.  Example below, if you want to ID the images you are about to take to the "Crew" division, you can select any name in the "Crew" division and all images will be IDd as action to that division.  It doesn't matter what name you pull up, the images are going to be IDd as action to that name's division, which means everyone in that division will see those images as "action" in their gallery.

You will only need to open one name in the division and take all images under one name, until you need to flag as action to another division.  At that time, you close the acquire image window and select a new name in the division you want to ID the images to.

If you want to ID the images to two different divisions at the same time, pull up a name in division 1, then select to additional names and pull up a name from the second division.  Images taken will be IDd as action to both divisions.

Bulk ID by Division When Uploading via CCS Uploader

If you choose to bulk ID your images as action while uploading you can do so, by naming your folders with the division name and selecting the option to auto categorize your images when you upload them.

To bulk ID as you upload, open CCS Uploader and under Advanced Options, check "Auto categorize images by folder name."  Once a folder is flagged to auto categorize, all images uploaded into that folder will be IDd as action.  So if you have team and individual images to upload, they need to go into a different folder and the auto categorize option should not be checked.  This also means, you should upload your team and individual images first, then come back and reopen CCS Uploader to upload the action photos.

Keep in mind folder names can only contain Letters, Numbers and Underscores, so make sure you name your folders by division but with those restrictions.

Example:  Folder could be named Jets_vs_Rangers and that would end up being the division the images are assigned to.

Also note, that if you setup divisions in CORE, you'll need to make sure your division names are identical to the folders you are uploading into.

Bulk IDing Images as Action in CORE

Go into the event in CORE.

On the left menu select Images, then select ID Images

Under Action Shots, click on Bulk-ID images

You can select images by Set Number Range, Roll/Frame (folder/image) Range or Auto Categorize by folder name.  When IDing in CORE it's best to select Roll/Frame (folder/image) range, otherwise you may end up flagging images as action that you did not intend to flag as action.

Select Roll/Frame Range

If all images in the folder are action, then next select the folder, then select the first image and the last image in that folder.  Otherwise select the specific range containing your action images.

Select the division you want to assign to those images and click Apply IDs.

Repeat for each set of images and their respective division.

Note:  You CANNOT ID images to more than one division when bulk assigning.  It will override to the last division you select.  If you need images IDd to more than one division, you'll need to have a joined division name, such as "Jets vs Rangers".
