Auto Race ID by Time of Day

If you can photograph participants as they are crossing a timing mat, such as, the finish line and you can get the time of day they cross you can utilize our Auto Race ID by Time of Day option.

TO GET STARTED

Contact support with your account number and preferred user name and password for access to the Auto ID site.

BEFORE THE RACE

Make sure the date and time are set correctly on all your cameras BEFORE your photograph the race.  This will make it easier to manage later.

UPLOAD & LOCK IMAGE FOLDERS

  1. Upload your images via CCS Uploader
  2. Make sure all folders are locked on the alignment categories page

SETTING UP YOUR RACE EVENT TO AUTO ID

  1. Log in to: https://webservices.candid.com/autospot/LogIn.aspx
  2. Enter your User Name & Password
  3. Enter your Account #
  4. Enter your Event #
  5. Click Add Event

IMPORTING YOUR BIBS & NAMES

  1. Spreadsheet must have these 2 columns of data only and saved as a CSV file
    1. Column A - Bib Number
    2. Column B - FirstName LastName
      Note:  THIS IS NOT THE SAME SPREADSHEET YOU IMPORT INTO CORE
  2. Select Import Race Participants
    1. Select Choose File > locate your CSV file > Click Import
    2. Return to Event Main Menu

MANAGE PHOTO LOCATIONS

  1. Click Manage Shot Locations
  2. Enter the location of each photographer who's images will be auto IDd
    1. If all images are from the same event location OR all the timing data is in one file, such as, the Finish, just enter FINISH as the location.
    2. If images are from different locations that will have different timing data, such as, the Marathon Finish and the 1/2 Marathon Finish or Turnaround, you'll enter each of the locations. 
  3. Format your timing data into a spreadsheet with 2 columns.  
    1. Column A = Bib Number
    2. Column B = Time of day (Example:  14:15:05)
  4. Click Import Timing Date

MANAGING CAMERAS

  1. Enter the name of the camera (Typically Use Location as the Name)
  2. Enter the photographer name (Can enter the location as the photographer if all images in sequential folders)
  3. Click Add Camera
  4. Click Edit Rolls
    1. Enter the Start Folder
    2. Enter the End Folder
    3. Save
    4. Return to Main Menu

SYNC IMAGES

  1. Click Manage Event Cameras
  2. Click SYNC to the right of one of the cameras
  3. On the left you will see a location to enter the bib # of the person in the image.  If you need to change the bib#, click edit.  Once bib is displayed it will show the name of the person associated with that bib.
    1. Once matched to a bib in the photo, click "Add to Sync List"
  4. Select another image from the Roll/Frame dropdown and confirm the bib number/name match the person in the photo.
    1. Click "Add to Sync List"
  5. Repeat this process on approximately 5 - 10 images in at least 5 - 10 folders for this photographer.   This is is training the system to know how far before and after the timing mat that person will be within the photo range.
  6. After you have entered several bibs on the right side of the image you will see the Sync List and the results of the offset.   We recommend clicking to use the Median result.
  7. After selecting the median result click Set Offset.
  8. Repeat steps 1-7 for all photographers/cameras.

CAPTURE AND SPOT (ID)

  1. Click Capture and Spot
  2. Select a camera from the dropdown
  3. OPTIONAL - IF YOU FOLLOWED THE SYNC INSTRUCTIONS ABOVE DO NOT ENTER AN AUTO CAPTURE RANGE.  ONLY USE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO VIEW AND SYNC IMAGES VISUALLY: 
    1. If you prefer to auto set your capture range instead of syncing by viewing images, you can enter a negative number of seconds before they cross the timing mat that you want to capture participants to a positive number of seconds after they cross the timing mat.  To start enter -1.0 to 1.0, then click Apply.
    2. If you used the SYNC option viewing images, don't apply a capture range here because it will override the sync you did on the previous page.
  4. You can see the results on this page.  In the right column it will show you the list of images associated with the bib #.  You can click on the image name to view the image.  You can optionally click the edit button to change the timing of the capture range for that participant.

  1. If you would like to bulk ID images that were not IDd to anyone, click the assign link to the right of images (# without spots)
    1. Enter a code and click OK.  In CORE you will use that code to create a lost and found category.
  2. Once you have verified your results click Run Auto-Spot

IMPORTING YOUR SPOT (ID) DATA INTO CORE

  1. Log into your event in CORE
  2. Go to Names & Contact Data
    1. Click Import BulkID data
  3. Go to Images > ID Images
  4. On the top right side of the page, click Bulk ID (only those with Admin Rights will see this option)
  5. Here you will see your image spotting (ID) data
