Camera is not recognized by Windows

If Windows recognizes the camera, the camera model will be displayed as a connected device drive next to the C:/ Drive.  If not, no camera will be listed and the troubleshooting steps below should be followed.

  1. Verify that all Windows updates have been installed on the Windows 10 or 11 tablet.  Even when the Updates Completed is displayed, click it again to verify there are no further updates to install.  Repeat until all updates have been installed.  It may require a restart or download button to be clicked periodically during the update process.
  2. While the camera is turned on and connected to the tablet via a USB cable, restart the tablet.
  3. If the camera is still not recognized by Windows, change out the USB cable and any adapters used to connect it to tablet.  These same cables can be tested on another tablet that has been successfully connected to the camera.  If still not being recognized, ensure that the cable and adapter being used are one of our recommended cables or that the cable can be used for data transfer.  Contact Customer Support for additional troubleshooting assistance with this issue.

Camera is recognized by Windows, but not by Photomatch

When a camera is connected to the tablet and Photomatch recognizes the camera, it will be indicated in the upper left of the Photomatch screen.  If Photomatch does not recognize the camera, it will display NONE.  Re-verify that Windows shows a connected camera.  If no, go back to the above troubleshooting steps.  If yes, follow the steps below.

If Photomatch still fails to recognize the camera (and Windows does) follow these steps to uninstall and reinstall the camera driver that enables the computer and camera to communicate.

  1. While the camera is turned on and connected to the tablet, log out of Photomatch and restart the tablet.  Log in to Photomatch to see if this resolves the issue.
  2. If not, search for the Device Manager in the Windows search box and click on the search match. (Device Manager / Control Panel)
  3. Expand the entry for Portable Devices and the camera connected should be displayed. (example below is a Z5)
  4. Right click on the camera entry and select Uninstall Device.. The Portable Device entry will disappear which is verification that the device driver was removed.
  5. Leaving the camera connected to the computer, turn the camera off and then turn the camera back on.  The driver will be re-installed.  When the Portable Devices entry reappears, proceed to the next step.
  6. Launch Photomatch and the camera should be displayed in the upper left of the software. If still not recognized, log out of Photomatch and restart the tablet and then log back into Photomatch.  If still not recognized, contact Customer Support for additional troubleshooting assistance.
