Monthly Maintenance on your Windows PhotoMatch Tablet or Laptop

It's critical that you keep your PhotoMatch computers up-to-date on Windows and keep your hard drive space under 50% capacity. You should keep a monthly schedule for updating, backing up and removing image files from your PhotoMatch machines.

The following steps should be taken at least once a month

  1. Run Windows Updates
    1. Go to the search window on your taskbar and type "Windows Updates" and click to open the Windows Updates page
    2. Confirm "Get latest updates as soon as they're available" is OFF
    3. Click Check for Updates (EVEN IF IT SAYS YOU'RE UP TO DATE)
      1. If it finds updates, click to download and install
      2. After install, click to Check for Updates again and repeat until it doesn't find any additional updates
      3. If any updates were installed, restart your computer
  2. Go to your PhotoMatch folder on your desktop
    1. This is where all the images from previous events are stored
    2. Connect an external hard drive to your computer or insert a thumb drive or memory card you can backup the images into
      1. Once your drive or card is attached, highlight all the folders in your PhotoMatch folder and select the scissor icon to "CUT", then open your external drive or memory card and paste the folders into your location on the external drive or memory card.   This will move the folders of images off your PhotoMatch machine clearing up hard drive space.
      2. We recommend your PhotoMatch machine never go above 50% capacity on the hard drive.  Depending on the number of events you photograph, you may need to do this step more or less often than every month.
  3. Double check these settings to make sure your PhotoMatch tablet/computer is set for optimal performance.
    1. Go to Windows Updates and select Advanced Options
    2. Makes sure these options are set to OFF
    3. Select Active Hours and set to "manually" and make sure they are set to 6:00am to Midnight.  This prevents updates from downloading while using PhotoMatch.
  4. Type "Power" in the search field and select power, sleep and battery settings
    1. Select Screen and Sleep
    2. When Plugged in select Never on both settings
    3. When on battery select turn off screen after 30 minutes and sleep never
