How to setup, photograph and market a Traditional Senior Class Group photo

CORE Event Setup

  1. Create an event in CORE.  Class groups can be setup in the Grad or Sports market.
  2. Before selecting the print size you'll offer, you'll need to know the number of subjects that will be photographed and the location you'll be photographing so you can determine the shape of the group image.
Here is how you determine which print size you should offer based on the number of people in the group and the number of rows you have to work with.

Setting Up For the Group Photo

  1. Setting up for your group photo and how to determine how wide your group will be
    1. Determine if you are shooting for a 10x18, 10x24 or 10x30
    2. Determine the number of rows to be used based on the number of people vs. print size
    3. Divide the total number of people by the number of rows you will be using
      1. Example:  300 people divided by 9 rows (300 ÷ 9 = 33.3)  Round it up to 34.  This is how many people you will have in the middle row of your group.
    4. Take that number and multiply it by 18 (inches)
      1. Example:  34 x 18 = 612 inches.  Then divide by 12.
    5. Take that number and divide it by 12 (inches) this the width of your middle row
      1. Example:  612 ÷ 12 = 51 Feet.  51 feet is how wide your middle row will be.
    6. Measure out the width of your middle row and mark it with tape.
    7. Go look through your camera and position it where you can see both pieces of tape with a little extra room on the outside edge (approximately the width or a person left on the each outside edge)
    8. Now go to the top corner of your back row and run a piece of tape from that corner down across your middle row mark, straight towards the camera.
      1. This will put your outside line about where it needs to be for your group to look straight on the ends.
    9. Use the camera to determine exactly where your lines need to be.  These lines will be the outside edge of the group of people
    10. Look through the camera to adjust the lines as needed.  While looking through your camera the lines will appear straight up and down.
    11. We suggest getting the students in groups by height before having them go into the bleachers.
      1. Start loading the students into the bleachers, keeping them inside your angled lines
      2. Start with 6' and taller and lead them up into the bleachers in a single file line
      3. Then 5'8" and taller and lead them up into the bleachers in a single file line
      4. Then 5'4" and taller and lead them up into the bleachers in a single file line
      5. Then 5'3" and under and lead them up into the bleachers in a single file line
      6. Adjust rows as you are loading the bleachers, whether that means packing them in tighter or as you get close to the end having them a bit more spread out.
      7. If you have specific students that need to be in the front like the example photo, you will need to skip a row so taller kids are not standing in front of shorter kids. (factor that into your # of rows where measuring)

Marketing Your Class Group

Option 1:  Provide order envelopes and take orders on picture day, then key those orders into CORE.  Orders can be mailed direct to homes or delivered back to school.

Option 2:  Allow online preorders that will be transmitted after you photograph the group.  Orders can be mailed direct to homes or delivered back to the school.

Option 3:  Online registration before/during the group photo and send email/sms text links to order after the group is uploaded.  Orders will be mailed direct to homes.
