TKO

TKO (Total Knockout)

TKO is a knockout service that allows you to photograph your subjects on an unlit white or light gray background. Knockouts are much cleaner and have more detail around a person's hair. It eliminates the green/blue glow you can get with chroma-key.

TKO is a higher quality alternative to a chroma-key cutout.

Reasons to get certified and start using the TKO service.

  • Cleaner knockouts
  • Fewer knockout issues such as shadows, background spill, wrinkles on background and color conflicts
  • Save substantially due to fewer needed repairs
  • Easier to train and execute
  • Can be used outdoor in a tent

TKO Cost

  • 21 cents per image to knockout
  • 31 cents per image to knockout for files larger than 8 MB file size and/or 24 MP resolution/pixel dimension
  • 10 cents per image to merge/render a background

Backgrounds

  • White Fleece by Westcott X-Drop 5x12 or 9x20 (recommended)
  • Or White Paper, Muslin, non-glossy vinyl or very very light gray
  • TKO is NOT Recommended for Groups - There are too many cutout issues or artifacts around the feet and legs.  We recommend that you use the Team Impact product as an alternative where the group is cutout by hand and then merged with a background and graphics

TKO Tips

  • Avoid visible tape or mark on the floor, as TKO may view it as part of the foot and not knock it out
  • Suggest putting your marks on the sides of your background out of camera view
  • Avoid dark backgrounds
  • Avoid chairs, benches, columns or other detached props
  • TKO may not work when a prop or clothing has small gaps like in a tennis racquet, tulle, golf clubs or other items with very thin components.
  • TKO may also miss gaps in large hanging earrings or tassels
  • If using a bat, use the pose with the bat resting on the shoulder.  Avoid a batting pose which leaves the bat far outside the body outline and possibly be partially cutout.

  • If multiple people in image, subjects will need to be touching or overlapping or only one person might be knocked out

Recommend File Size

  • 1 mb (mega byte) File Size
  • 5-6 mp (mega pixel) image size/resolution
    • Set camera to highest compression (on a Nikon that is basic)
  • Keeps you at the lowest retail commission
  • Note:  we cannot process images 24 MP or larger / 8 MB or larger
