Watermarks on Retail Thumbnails & Preview Images

What is the difference between the scrolling watermark and static watermark and which one is right for my events?

SCROLLING WATERMARK

The scrolling watermark displays the text COPYRIGHT multiple times across the image and continually scrolls.   The scrolling watermark is on top of the image, so if you use the scrolling watermark alone, it is possible to get to the unmarked image with no watermark (if your customer knows how to use developer tools in their browser).

STATIC WATERMARK

The static watermark is actually part of the image.  Because it's part of the image it cannot be removed.  The static watermark is the best way to protect your online images.

Which watermark should you use?

Many photographers choose to utilize both a static watermark and a scrolling watermark to protect their images online.

Setting Up Watermarks on Your Events

We offer 4 ways to watermark your images

  1. Static “Proof” watermark  = this watermark is actually part of the image
  2. Static “Custom” watermark = this watermark is actually part of the image
  3. Scrolling watermark = this watermark is an animation on the retail website and is not part of the image
  4. Static & Scrolling watermark = this would have the image with the watermark on it and the scrolling on top

We highly recommend you do not use the scrolling watermark alone.  Because it’s an animation and not part of the image is more likely your image(s) will be stolen.  There are capture programs that would allow the user to get the image behind the scrolling watermark.  If the user knows how to use the web browsers developer tools, they will also be able to get to the image without a watermark.

When setting up your workflow you may choose different watermarks for the preview & thumbnail images

You can also update your watermarks AFTER your images have been posted online.

Go to the Images menu within your event and under images you will see a box that says Update watermarks on thumbnails and previews - Click the Update button and select the new settings that you want to use.

Note:  If your images are Chroma-Key or TKO, they will have to be rerun if you change your static watermark status.

If you update your watermarks, be sure to preview your event online to ensure that the images are appearing online as expected.

Custom Static Watermarks

If you would like to add a custom watermark send us a both a 4x6 vertical and 6x4 horizontal PNG image with a transparent background with your watermark in white positioned where you would like it located on the image.  Email the PNG images to CCSsupport@candid.com along with your account number and what you would like your watermark named.  The "name" will be displayed in the dropdown when you select your watermark on your workflow.
